please consider this, read through the typewritten message above or below:
Dear Everyone:
You are all probably wondering a couple things right now. Which is understandable. You are probably wondering:
1: what is this “subjective” nonsense?”
2: why did he type this on a typewriter?
To answer these questions (and hopefully more):
“subjective” is an idea for a small journal that i want to organize. It is a journal periodically ssense of the word and not the “divulge your secret crushes” sense. (though it might be perfectly acceptable to do such things within this journal. ANYWAYS, this is the idea behind the journal:
every issue will be based around a specific type of person. for instance, the first issue’s “strangers.” the next will be either family, enemies, or the unemployed.
the title “subjective” comes in here. each contribution will be an interpretation of the theme. I think it is best if people are super biased and subjective within their interpretations. I think that is the recipe for great submissions. which brings me to the next point of interest…
How / what do i submit?
A) I do not expect people to make new things for this journal. but if want to you are more than welcome to.
B) I am open to any sort of submission as long as it can be expressed on a print medium. For instance: short stories, poetry, art, photography, collages, fiction, non0fiction. As long as it is printable and is the contributor’s interpretation of the theme (“strangers”) it is acceptable.
C) BUT just because it is submitted does not mean it is automatically in. I have FAITH that everyone makes quality things. So i guess a certain level of quality has to exist for this to be successful.
D) Will this really get printed? We shall see…at least a digital copy will be put together and “published online.”
What is the point?
Well first, i thought it would be cool to make something that was a hybrid (buzzword!) between This American Life and People Magazine…A tabloid of the everyday man.
Second, i am surrounded by many talented people. this is a good way to compile the diversity? of talent and to make a product that will display everyone’s talents in a not-so-serious-but-kind-of-serious way in one place.
Third, I want to edit and compile things, and share other peoples work with each other.
Finally…I typed this out for several reasons. To show that I care about this enough to type it out on an old Royal Typewriter. Because it is strangely therapeutic and meditative. And I am bored.
So maybe you are interested in submitting old work / creating new work. Maybe you are not interested but know someone who would be. pictures, stories, art, etc. all are great!
Please just e-mail me saying that you are interested with “subjective” in the subject. So that i can get an email list set up to send out deadlines and information. THANKS so much!
Oh, and the first theme is “strangers”
Sincerely,
David Corns

(edit:) this is something i will be e-mailing people that i have email addresses to that might be interested in submitting. but if anyone out in the tumblr world is interested as well, let me know! the top image is the potential cover of the first issue.
